Care for Wavy Hair - Autumn 2014
Hello! It's been a while since I've written a blog post. I do apologise; I've been up to my eyeballs in essays and since they've finally been submitted (argh!!) I want to post on my blog a lot more regularly. End Admin Bit.
I'm one of those annoying people whose hair kind of goes wavy by itself. I used to believe that the cause of this was a spa-type birthday party I went to when I was nine, where the girl who curled my hair did it so vigorously and with such volume of hairspray that my hair was doomed to never be straight again.
Seriously, it won't go straight.
Nowadays, I blame it more on my hair's tendency to frizz at every possible opportunity, and my lack of effort to get my split ends trimmed every couple of months. I can blowdry my hair with a hairbrush and within minutes it's curling up towards my shoulders as if there's a tiny monster crawling out of my jeans' pocket.
This is my hair this morning. I haven't touched any curling irons, I promise! Over the last few months I have begun to use various products that have managed to tame the frizz my hair can get itself into whilst maintaining a pretty nice wave, if I do say so myself. I thought I would share them with you today.
I haven't arranged the products in a helpful order, my apologies!
Shampoo and Conditioner | I have only ever used shampoo and conditioner that you can pick up in a supermarket. I used Pantene for years, then Herbal Essences (never again), then TREsemme for the entirety of last year, and now I use Aussie. The Miracle Moist shampoo leaves my hair looking healthy and shiny, removing the drying effect of split ends, and the Mega Instant conditioner reinforces the effect of the shampoo and is so gentle that it can be used daily. Plus I can pick them up from the Tesco Express round the corner for a total of £8.
Hair Oil | I only retain and regularly use about 30% of the products I receive in Glossyboxes, and this is one of them. I use the L'Oreal Professional Mythic Oil on towel-dried (still damp) and brushed hair, avoiding the roots, and this really makes my hair look super healthy and shiny.
Texturizing Spray | I'm not too sure if this is actually a texturizing spray but it certainly makes my hair less feather-soft if I decide to style it. This is a new purchase for me. It works as a hairspray, frizz control and a texturizing spray. It seems to encourage my wavy hair to show itself in full force, too, and they'll stay all day. (Fudge Matte Mineral Textures Anti-Frizz Deconstruction Spray)
Heat Protectant and Hair Spray | L'Oreal again! I will say that I am still on the fence about this hairspray, as whenever I style my hair my actual curls last maybe half an hour, and I'm not sure if it's the styling tools I have (Paul Smith) or my hairspray! The heat protectant is a must. I normally spray this on my damp hair even if I'm just blowdrying it. I'd like to keep my hair healthy and not burnt please!! (L'Oreal Elnett Satin Supreme Hold Hairspray/L'Oreal Elnett Heat Protect Styling Spray)
Dry Shampoo | It has to be Batiste. As a lazy human, dry shampoo is an absolute saviour for me. I am hygienic, just to say - I just can't be bothered to wash my hair every other day like I used to. I now wash it twice a week rather than 3/4 times a week. Saves money! However, as much as I like Batiste I do find that the residue it leaves on my scalp sometimes is a little bit disgusting and powdery. Make sure to brush it properly through! (Batiste Dry Shampoo in Floral and Flirty Blush)
Hairbrush | I've had this thing for over a decade. Is that gross? I did buy a Tangle Teaser about a year ago but it's more of a handbag brush. I love this big paddle brush; it really gets to the roots of my hair and pulls out any knots or tangles. It's super massaging for my scalp, too, which means that brushing my hair is far more enjoyable!! I doubt they still make this exact brush, but it is by Denman.
Thanks for reading! Let me know what your staple haircare products are.
Lots of love!
Catherine
